Our AI Receptionist can now reply to incoming text messages from clients, leads, and collaborators - ensuring timely, consistent responses whether they call or text, especially when you're unavailable.

Bonus: you can choose to have your Receptionist handle calls only, texts only, both, or turn it off entirely for specific contacts. This is especially helpful if your personal contacts often reach out on your business number, or if you'd like certain people—like key clients—to bypass the Receptionist and reach you directly.

➕ Enable the AI Text Receptionist

To get started:

  1. Open the M1 app

  2. Go to Settings → AI Receptionist

  3. Under Text Messages, toggle the feature on

Then, choose who it should respond to:

  • Everyone

  • Only known contacts

  • Only unknown contacts

Once enabled, the AI Text Receptionist will automatically reply to messages within your selected scope.

If you manually reply to a text, the receptionist will pause its replies in that conversation for 24 hours. It will resume only for new messages sent by that contact after the pause period.

⚙️ What's included

  • Smart, instant replies to incoming texts

  • Shared knowledge base with your AI Receptionist

  • Ability to book meetings directly on your calendar

  • Adjustable reply scope (everyone, known contacts, unknown contacts)

  • Contact-level controls available inside each chat

👤 Turn off your AI Receptionist for specific contacts

If there are contacts you don't want the AI to respond to, you can customize those settings individually:

1. Open any chat

2. Tap the Receptionist icon next to the message composer

3. Use the toggles to turn on/off:

  • Answers calls

  • Replies to texts

  • Call recording*

*As you can see, from that menu, you can also disable Call recording for that contact. This gives you precise control over how your AI Receptionist interacts with each contact, whether it's turning it off entirely or just disabling certain features like call recording or text replies.

🔁 Switching to manual replies

Want to take over a conversation? Just reply yourself.
The AI Text Receptionist will automatically pause its replies in that conversation for 24 hours - this avoids overlapping messages when you jump in manually. After that, it will resume only if that contact sends a new message.

❓ FAQ

Does it work with my current AI Receptionist setup?
Yes! It uses the same knowledge and preferences you've already configured.

Does it replace the AI Receptionist?
No, they work side-by-side. The AI Receptionist handles calls, while the Text Receptionist handles texts.

Can it schedule appointments?
Yes! The AI Text Receptionist can book meetings directly on your calendar, just like the AI Receptionist. Make sure you've connected your calendar in the M1 app settings to enable this feature.

What if call recording is turned off for a contact, but the AI Receptionist is still on?

Even if call recording is disabled for a specific contact, the AI Receptionist will continue to handle their calls as usual - and will still generate a transcript of the voicemail.

Can I set a delay before it replies?
Not yet. The receptionist replies instantly, but we're exploring more flexible timing options in the future.

Can I turn it off?

Yes. You can disable it entirely from Settings → AI Receptionist → Text Messages, or manage it per contact from any chat by tapping the AI Receptionist icon next to the message composer.
