☎️Option 1: Port your existing number to M1

If you're using a second number app like Google Voice, Sideline, or OpenPhone, you can easily transfer (port) your existing number to M1. Before starting the porting process, ensure your number is unlocked with your current provider.

➡️ Steps to Port Your Number:

  1. Contact Support: Start the porting process by opening a chat and sending the message, "I'd like to port my number."

  2. Prepare Required Documents:

    • Completed porting form (provided by M1 support)

    • Proof of ownership (latest bill, receipt, or account screenshot showing your name and number)

    • Your account number from your current provider

    • The 4-digit PIN required for porting (contact your current provider if you don't have one)

  3. Share Details: Our team will guide you through submitting these documents.

  4. Wait for Confirmation: The process usually takes about 1-2 weeks.

  5. Start Using M1: Once complete, your number will work seamlessly in M1.

💡Good to know: There's no disruption in service while your number is being ported. The complete process can take up to two weeks, but is often completed in about one week.

Tips for a smooth porting process:

  • Double-check that all submitted documents are legible

  • Verify that your name and number match on all ownership documents

  • Make sure your numeric PIN is set and ready

  • Follow up with M1 support if you don't receive updates within the expected timeline

⛔️ Numbers with data plans (e.g., Verizon or T-Mobile) are not supported for porting. Since M1 isn’t a data provider, porting these lines would result in losing your data plan.

ℹ️ Once your number is ported, it will replace the M1 number originally assigned to your account.

⚠️ M1 does not currently support receiving two-factor authentication (2FA) messages - like verification codes from banks or apps. If you rely on 2FA regularly, we recommend keeping your current provider and using Call Forwarding instead.

📲Option 2: Use Call Forwarding and Caller Identity

If your number is with a traditional carrier (e.g., T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T), you can use call forwarding and customize your caller ID through the M1 app.

How to Set It Up:

  1. Enable Call Forwarding:

    • Set up call forwarding with your carrier to route calls to your M1 number.

    • Check your carrier’s instructions or our Call Forwarding Guide for help.

  2. Set Caller Identity in M1:

    • Open the M1 app and go to Settings > Caller Identity.

    • Enter and verify your primary number.

    • Once verified, your primary number will display as your caller ID.

    • Check out our Caller ID Setup & Troubleshooting Guide for step-by-step instructions and fixes if you’re having trouble enabling Caller ID.

ℹ️ Note: Texts sent through M1 will always use your M1 number, not your primary number.

These options give you flexibility to use M1 while keeping your existing number. If you have questions, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to help!
