Steps to follow after porting
1. Relaunch the M1 app
Once you are notified that your number has been successfully ported to M1, fully close and reopen the M1 app to ensure it picks up your newly ported number and updated settings.
2. Confirm number removal with former carrier
M1 takes care of the porting process, but we recommend confirming with your previous carrier that your number has been removed from their system. This helps avoid any billing issues.
3. Check for call forwarding
If you had call forwarding enabled to your M1 number before porting, make sure to disable it. This prevents potential conflicts in your call setup.
Managing common issues
Porting in progress
If your new number isn't showing in the M1 app yet, the porting might still be underway. Your number will be updated once the process is complete.
Incompatibility with data plans
M1 doesn’t support numbers tied to mobile data plans (like Verizon or T-Mobile). If you try to port such a number, your data plan may be lost.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
M1 currently doesn't support 2FA codes via SMS. If you rely on SMS-based verification for apps or services, we recommend using an alternative number.
FAQs
Will I lose access to my number during the transition?
No, your number remains active during the porting process, so you won't experience any service interruptions.
What should I do if I encounter issues?
If you're experiencing porting delays or app issues, the most common cause is a restriction on your previous carrier's side. We recommend contacting your carrier directly to check if any restrictions are still in place or if additional steps are required on their end.
